Part of the joy of the holidays is getting together with people you love but playing host or hostess can be stressful. Remove the anxiety and welcome friends and family into your home this season with the following hosting tips.

Meal prep

Do anything and everything you can do to get food to the table quickly and easily when hosting a holiday meal. This may include baking desserts or even the main course before the event or relying on some pre-made options for appetizers or sides.

Drink station

Set up a drink station outside your work area with holiday-themed treats like apple cider and hot chocolate (and all the fixings like marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, whipped cream and nutmeg) along with water, wine or beer so guests can serve themselves. This will help keep you focused on the meal and your guests out of the kitchen.

Closet space

Chances are your guests will be wearing heavy coats. Be sure to set up space in a closet, pull out a coat rack or designate a guest room to serve as the catchall for coats.

A little help

The adage “many hands make light work” is true, especially for holiday get-togethers. Enlist the help of a friend or family member to ease your hosting responsibilities.

Calm atmosphere

Your guests will feed off your energy; although hosting is a daunting task, remember that everything doesn’t have to be perfect, be present in the moment and enjoy the time with your loved ones.
