Your tires are some of the most important pieces on your car. They keep you in contact with the road and give you traction you need when the roads get rough. That is why it is so important to replace them when they get worn down. Here are four signs that you need new tires.
- Tread depth. If the tread on your tire is 2/32 of an inch deep or less, you need new tires. A simple way to measure this is by using a penny. Put a penny between the tread grooves with Lincoln’s head pointing down. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, your tires need to be replaced.
- Age. Even if the tread is still deep, the rubber will break down over time. Most tire manufacturers recommend replacing tires before they reach 10 years old.
- Cracks. Here in Texas, the summer heat can get extreme. These extreme temperatures can cause the rubber in your tires to dry out and crack. If you see any cracks, it is time for new tires.
- Bulges. Bulges and blisters can start to form on your tires if the rubber gets too weak. Once this starts to happen, the bulges can spread across the tire.
